In Hindu mythology, Nandi is said to have played the mridangam during Shiva's arcane Tandava dance, causing a divine rhythm to resound across the heavens. This portrayal of musician is unique and detailed from head to toe. It is made of antique brass using Dhokra technique. The base is made of teak wood.

Dhokra artefacts can be traced back as early as Mohenjo-daro. It is the oldest traditional technique of casting metal. The name of the art is derived from the fact that it is greatly practiced by Dhokra damar tribe.
