A hand-painted lamp depicting fish and peacock. In Indian mythology, fish is believed to be a symbol of transformation and creation and peacock represents patience and knowledge. Together they bring good luck in the house. The painting is done on tassar silk and the lamp frame is made of teak wood.

Madhubani Art dates back to the period of Ramayana. According to mythology, King Janak ordered his subjects to decorate the entire town during Sita’s swayamvar. Since women generally stayed indoor, they decorated the walls with beautiful paintings.
The painting on the lamp has been made by local artist Dilip Jha from Madhubani.
