Hand painted "Manjusha Art" Tray from Bihar

A hand-painted tray depicting a Snake & Kalash in Manjusha style. According to folklore, Snake symbolises Mansa Devi and Kalash symbolises the “Amrith” kalash from which Jaya Bishhari feeds Goddess Parvati after the snake bite. Manjusha Art is based on a folk story of Bihula - Bishari. Earlier the artists used to narrate the story in the oral form in conjunction with pictorial representation.
This tray have been beautifully hand-painted on handmade paper and hot pressed to make it waterproof.
This is made by the local artist from Bhagalpur (previously Ang Pradesh) where the art has originated.
