Antique Dhokra Bookends - Folk Musician Playing "Maracas"
Handmade bookends of folk musicians playing maracas. Original instruments were made of gourds. Musicians hold them by their handle, usually in pair and shake them. Its a recent addition to Indian musical instrument. The bookends are made of antique brass using Dhokra technique.

Dhokra artefacts can be traced back as early as Mohenjo-daro. It is the oldest traditional technique of casting metal. The name of the art is derived from the fact that it is greatly practiced by Dhokra damar tribe.
