Gond Painting - Creation of Cosmos
Set of 3 painting which beautifully narrates mythological tale of Gond origin. Chief diety of Gond tribe is Badadev. One day Badadev thought of creating other creatures and human beings. When Badadev looked down, he could only see water and no land. He sent a crow to locate earth. After flying for three days the crow spotted a portion emerging out of the water surface and he sat on it. It was a paw of Kakadamal (crab). On knowing the purpose of crow’s arrival the crab asked Kichakmal (earthworm) to give a portion of earth. When the earth worm denied, the crab strangled him so hard that he vomited the earth. The crow brought the small portion of the earth to Badadev. Badadev then asked the Makadamal (spider) to weave a net on water surface. The earth was spread on that net. Thus, the earth was made but it was still shaking on water surface. He then made trees to hold the earth from shaking with the help of its roots. The entire flora was created from the hair of Badadev. He infused life in all his creations and sent them to the earth. Gond - Gondin were the first human couple created by Badadev. The painting is made on paper and comes without frame.
