Gond Painting - Majestic Peacock
Peacock is one of the recurring motifs in all the Gond Paintings. As per the Gond folklore, God Badadev created all creatures on the earth. God desired that the universe should be a place of beauty and grace, and so decided to spend the next seven days crafting a masterpiece creation of unsurpassable majesty, which he would adorn the universe with. After much thought, he finally designed the majestic creature we today know as peacock. The painting is made on paper with acrylic paint..

The Gond Painting has originated from Madhya Pradesh and derives its name from the tribe. The Gond believe that “viewing good image brings good luck”. The paintings are an offering in worship of nature, and are also a mode of seeking protection against the evil.
The painting is made by Jangarh Singh Shyam’s wife and State Awardee artist Nankusiya Shyam from Madhya Pradesh.
