A hand-painted tray of horse. In Ramayana, there is an important ritual called “Ashwamedha yagya”. A royal stallion is released for a year wandering and all the land he roamed would come under the king who unleashed the horse. The tray is made on handmade paper and hot-pressed to preserve the color of the painting.

Chitrakathi Painting, around 300 - 400 years old, is almost extinct form of art practised by only one family in Maharastra. Chitra - picture, Kathi - story narrates the story of Indian epics Ramayana, Mahabharata & Nandi Puranam.

The Artist:

This painting is made by master artist Eknath Gangavane who belongs to the only family practicing the art.
