Hand-painted "Madhubani Art" Coasters from Bihar

A set of 4 hand-painted coasters depicting Swans in Madhubani style. According to folklore, it was a swan who used to carry the information and messages between Nala and Damayanti, a mythical love story during times of Mahabharata. Mithila culture, which dates back some 3000 years, has its own language, rich literary tradition and women's tradition of painting and handicrafts passed down from generation to generation

These coasters have been beautifully hand-painted on handmade paper which has been hot pressed and made into coasters..

This is made by the local artist from Madhubani where the art has originated.
