This hand-painted box is made of paper pulp and then decorated with Kashmiri local motifs. The box is one of a kind and the artist no longer makes this design due to detailing and precision required to create the product. The box depicts the theme of Gul-andar-gul (flower within flower) and is made using single goat hair.

The Art:

Naquashi is the traditional technique of surface decoration by painting over an object. It is believed that this art was introduced in Kashmir by a prince in early 15th century. He was intrigued by the art when he was captured in Samarkand (Central Asia). When he returned to Kashmir, he brought experts of this art from there and asked them to establish their art in Kashmir.

This product is handcrafted by national awardee artist Syed Azad Khan from Jammu & Kashmir.
