Kalighat Painting - Wicked Whisper
This painting is based on a real life murder case known as, Tarkeshwar Murder Case. It is believed that the wife of Nobin Chandra, a government employee, was having an affair with the Mahant (priest) of the Tarkeshwar temple. Apart from Nobin, most of the people in the village were aware of this affair. One day when Nobin visited a barber in the village, he heard the gossips about his wife and the Mahant. On enquiring, the barber told him about the rumours going around in the community. It is this event that has been described in the painting. The painting is made on paper and comes with frame.

The Kalighat Painting was originated in West Bengal in 19th century around Kalibari temple in Kolkata. These paintings get patronage from people who have been inspired by modern thoughts and aesthetics. The art is not restricted to only religious themes. They often depict different interpretation to mythology and contemporary events in their own unique way. Kalighat paintings are produced with variety of water based, opaque colours on paper.
