Santhal Painting - Life of Tribe
The painting illustrates the traditions and societal practices in a life time of Santhals. The tribe celebrates even the smallest happy moments of one’s life with dance and music. Major customs are depicted in the painting - birth, hunting (one of the major customs since the origin of the tribe), marriage and death. Few people in the tribe called “Patua” narrate the events in form of painting. The painting is made on paper and comes without frame.

Santhal art is the depiction of way of life of the Santhal Tribe, their cultural heritage and their tradition. It is believed that their origins are pre-historic dating back thousands of years, much before the Dravidians or the Aryans.
The painting has been made District Awardee artist Sonali Chitrakar from West Bengal.
