Tikuli Painting - Ram Sita Marriage
According to the legend, the birthplace of Sita is Punaura, located in Bihar. Hence this art is hugely influenced by epic Ramayana. In this painting, a Jaimal scene from Rama & Sita's marriage is depicted. Jaimal is an indian wedding ritual where bride and groom exchange garlands. It is believed that Sita garlanded Rama after he strung Shiva's bow at her swayamvara and the practice has been repeated since then.

The modern form of this art is seen as the incarnation of decorative “bindi” worn by women on the forehead. The motifs of hindu mythological characters are used in Tikuli Paintings. Tikuli Art was originated in Patna and is believed to be 800 years old art.
This Tikuli art painting has been made by a group of local artists from Bihar trained by the pioneer Ashok Kumar Biswas.
